If you’re camera shy then I understand completely how you feel. The picture at the top of the page was an awkward moment for me. Posing for the camera is definitely not something I enjoy doing. Most pictures of me are either holiday snaps or drunken wedding guests insisting they get a picture of me on my camera on the dancefloor. I don’t mind this too much as this is a sure sign I have completed my objective of fitting in seemlessly to a day that I am a natural part of. I do love a mirror selfie at a wedding though, so don’t be surpirsed if one of these is snuck into your gallery! I am not very good at smiling in these pitcures (or any photo really) – but I promise I am having a great time!
There’s more photography around now than ever before, but Facebook is full of selfies and Instagram is full plates of food. While I am guilty of taking these pictures as well, they aren’t something you’re going to care about in 20-30 years time. I had an epiphany 10 years ago when my mum was diagnosed with a brain tumour and given 3 months to live. It was only then I realised I wasn’t taking the right kinds of pictures. We’d had one picture together in the previous 15 years – a blurry image taken at night on a camera phone. And it’s not a particularly good one of either of us. I’ve got very few pictures of her in general as well. My camera was always pointed at a pet or one of my nieces when the family was together. Since then I’ve been passionate about documenting real moments. Moments which once captured are preserved forever. These types of photographs which have an emotional or sentimental value are the ones which hold their importance over time.
My passion of documenting people in real moments is something I love to be able to provide for my couples. Wedding days are filled with the important people in your life and preserving those people on your most important day is a real honour I never take for granted.
Although if you have morning prep in your house and you own a cat I can’t promise I won’t spend time a fair amount of time trying to find it, fuss it and photograph it!
