CLAYTON HOTEL CHISWICK WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY
Last July I had the pleasure of photographing Grace & Paul’s wedding in London. The day was split between the ceremony at St. Dominic’s Priory on Southampton Road just south of Hampstead Heath and the Clayton Hotel, Chiswick, West London. St Dominic’s is a Grade II listed building and one of the largest Roman Catholic churches in London. The 19th century architecture and large stained glass windows set the perfect scene and it’s one of the most magnificent churches I’ve had the pleasure of photographing a ceremony in along with Tewkesbury Abbey.
CLAYTON HOTELS, CHISWICK, A HIDDEN GEM?
The Clayton Hotel in Chiswick is a bit of a hidden gem when it comes to wedding venues. London has a fantastic array of different venues for weddings such as Jackson’s Lane and The Chainstore which you can read about in two of my recent blogs. The Clayton Hotel, Chiswick easily has one of the biggest function rooms around to cater for larger weddings. Grace & Paul invited 200 guests and there was plenty of room to accommodate everyone for both the drinks reception, wedding breakfast and evening party.
Below is a selection of images from the day, I hope you enjoy looking through them.
The morning started in North London with bride prep at Grace’s parents house. Meanwhile Paul got ready at his and Grace’s home a few miles away. One of the things I love about photographing prep in people’s homes is you can include more personal elements in the images which really adds the wider story of the day. For example, I was able to take an image of Grace’s makeup being applied in the same frame as an old school photo of hers hanging on the wall. Small things like this really add to the story-telling and means that the image has deeper context for the family outside of just the wedding day.
TRADITIONAL CATHOLIC CEREMONY
The ceremony was a traditional catholic service and both Grace and Paul had a lot of family over from Southern Ireland, as coincidentally, both Paul and Grace come from large Irish families.
After the ceremony everyone gathered outside the church where, after a quick confetti run and plenty of hugs, guests boarded a couple of red London buses to the reception in Chiswick while Grace and Paul took some time out in the garden of the church before heading down to the Clayton Hotel in their wedding car.
Down at the Clayton Hotel there was a lively drinks reception in full swing by the time Grace and Paul arrived as the number of guests really created a buzz about the place. These types of drinks receptions are perfect for a documentary photographer as there always something going on somewhere and I can really blend into the crowd.
After the speeches and wedding breakfast it was time for the evening party. In keeping with their roots their evening entertainment came from Missing The Ferry performing traditional Irish music. There was a brief interlude when various member of Grace’s family took to the stage to perform a set of their own, which really added a personal touch to the evening.
I was assisted on the day by Connor McClelland who was 2nd shooting for me. 2nd shooters are ideal for larger weddings, please enquire about hiring one when booking if you’re having a larger wedding. Some of Connors photographs are featured below. Thanks to Connor for his help on the day.
