In March 2018 I had the pleasure of shooting Steph and Ali’s wedding at the beautiful Sheene Mill in Cambridgeshire. I know Steph through our mutual friend Michele. A couple of years ago Steph, Michele and I ended up on a day out together where I had brought my camera along. After she saw the pictures Steph said when she got married she would want me as her photographer as she liked my relaxed documentary style. It wasn’t long afterwards that her childhood sweetheart Ali proposed and Steph was soon asking me what dates I was free to shoot the wedding.
Sheen Mill Wedding Photography
The venue was Sheene Mill, a 16th Century Mill House which sits on the River Mel in Cambridgeshire and is steeped in history. With outstanding views over an old mill pond and local countryside, Sheene Mill is the perfect wedding venue. The Grade II listed house is packed with character and makes for a wonderful backdrop to the photos. In the grounds at the rear the pond is overlooked by a picturesque wooden gazebo, which is where outdoor ceremonies are conducted and the spring weather was just right on the day and the ceremony could take place in the large garden.
The day started at Steph’s childhood home as she got ready with her bridesmaids. Steph’s dad, step mum and brother were also home and a busy house always gives a great atmosphere during prep. Every father of the bride always spends the morning looking for jobs to keep himself busy while the organised chaos of bride prep goes on around him. Andy filled his time making rounds of bacon sandwiches for everyone and of course reading through his speech.
Below are a few images from the day.
OUTDOOR CEREMONY AT SHEEN MILL
The weather was perfect for an outside ceremony, there had been a threat of rain in the week so as a precaution a large marquee had been erected to cover the seating area, although it wasn’t needed it did guarantee the ceremony could take the place in Sheene Mill’s magnificent gardens. After the ceremony the bride and groom wanted to spend a few minutes away from the wedding and asked me to come along to get a few images of them together. We got in the wedding car and drove to a location just around the corner and spent a few minutes away from the hustle and bustle of the wedding day to take a few pictures of them together.
Back at Sheene Mill the drinks reception was in full flow and canapes were being served by venue staff.
LIVELY EVENING RECEPTION
After the wedding breakfast more guests arrived for the evening party and the night got started with the happy couple’s first dance and also a choreographed routine from Steph and her dad to Chuck Berry’s Johnny B Goode and the evening party continued in a lively fashion.
Steph had asked for a few shots in the venue grounds in the evening as Sheene Mill looks great in photographs lit up at night and I was happy to capture these for them along side shooting the evening in my normal documentary style. While out I saw one of the strangest sights I’ve seen at a wedding: a frog hopping away with a piece of confetti!
I loved being a Sheene Mill wedding photographer. If you would like your wedding at Sheene Mill covered in a documentary style as I have done here for Steph and Ali please get in touch.
